Fellow designers: Jorrit van der Heide & Lars de Langen

To explore the possibilities for human-AI collaboration in the household, Recuisine was designed. Recuisine is a system consisting of a display and a cookbook stand that provides households with insight and support for the transition and conservation of a healthy and sustainable family cuisine.

Design Brief

The goal of this project was to design a family of products that facilitates collaboration between humans and Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the domain of the smart home of 2030.

Design Process

Process overview

The kitchen of 2030

To start this project, a clear picture of what the kitchen of 2030 would look like had to be created. Through three iterations, the design context and desired human-AI interaction were framed. It was found that in 2030, there will be a focus on health and sustainability in the kitchen. This influences the decision making process mostly.

Creativity in the kitchen

The increased focus on health and sustainability brings a need for creativity in the kitchen. Therefore, a design concept was developed to stimulate creativity.

Recuisine

The design concept was further developed, which resulted in the product family Recuisine. It consists of the insight interface, a tryout module and a connected cookbook. By using this system, users are supported in making and implementing dietary changes.

Interactive web-app

To explain the functionality of the system and the AI, an interactive web-app was made. A neural network was made to make this web-app functional.
